I'm utterly disgusted at this and need to rant - my friend has been kicked out of college today on friday 13th!!?! Basically he's been doing a 1yr course in art & design specialising in fine art. The difference is tho unlike the other miserable teenage emo's that sit there wallowing in their own psis and painting pictures of rotten veg whilst sticking twigs onto planks of wood in the name of getting a qualification, he is actually swotting up like a feen - he's been learning 3d software and I've been helping him along where possible. He's put together a 3d aston martin and a spitfire model and is now using the 2 models in a 1 minute hypothetical advert that was gonna be his final college piece. This project was set to blow their college out the waters ..they've never had ANYONE do this kind of work there, and he's firing out stuff that has literally confuddled them but they absolutely love it as its great accolade for them right? The only downside is he has to do it at home as they dont have the software or the know how so in effect I've played tutor/mentor for him and he's knuckled down and done the rest.

Amidst all this his partner has also given birth so he's lost the last 5 months of sleep but STILL fired out more of this work as time and energy has allowed.

I'm completely narked off with this college (Warrington college of losers btw), they bleated onto him about how important it was that he returned when about 6months ago he was ready to call it a day mainly because of the arrival of his child, then they hype up his hopes, then knock him down and kick him off the course purely because he's not in the door selotaping bits of tangerine to a fcuking A1 canvas. wtf college does that? if you dont want the guy on dont phone him up asking him to return then and telling him how what he's doing will literally change the way the college works and push them into the 21st century.

I'm UTTERLY seething - I feel like stopping by on the way home tonight and giving them an earful - this is the 21st century and modern tech is all around us and my mate is embracing that knowing full well his direction and research will pay off, but they cant see it because he's not in the college doors whining on about not expressing his inner torment in front of a fcuking easel and art brush.

I'm sorry I just feel totally betrayed by our system. When I were at college it didn't matter what course I was doing or whether or not I could make it in - if I could at least show them once a week that I was doing something and that things were progressing my projects then it didn't matter and I didn't have the hassles that my friend has had to go through or the sleep deprivation too!

in fact sod it I AM going into that bloody place after work - these jokers are not taking this away from my friend - you hear me warrington collegiate - I'm bloody well gunning for you now you inept out of date idiots :minigun:

btw, if anyone wants to see his FIRST 3d car model check out his site - there's a few .movs on there if you click on them too...

I dont see how ANYONE can fail art, for the fact that art is good or bad depending on the audience and the only way he should of been kicked is if every living person saw it and all agreed it's junk.

The fact i just looked at his site and was quite amazed at his first attempt at a complex model like that (coming from a guy thats worked in architecture his whole working life) means that he should still be on the course.

Sure not everyone can appreciate it but i also dont appreciate sticking a piece of bubblegum to a hairbrush and calling it art yet if thats the sort of sh!t that is going on at this place than you're more than right to go an have a rant at them, as should he, and perhaps even get the governing body of the exam involved (different wherever you go but i know it was AQA for the IT course i did back in the late 90's).
