It aint though Chorme mate... I think it helps the boot spring open when the key or lever is pulled/turned.... There is nothing to press on it.... Strange thing... as the 200sx is exactly the same but without it?!?!?!?!?!

The green is the actual lever that opens the boot...
Can't speak for the 33, but the 32 has a lever in the boot that you pull up and it disabled the rear lock so the boot can only be opened from the cabin. Maybe it's one of those?

That thing ive circled is the part your all on about.... All i can think the part im on about helps the boot spring up..... but it springs upwithout it?!??!
