Hello all,

Im looking at getting my first skyline.... But i wanna get an GTR version.. Hopefully a 33, But enough of that, Insurance is why im here..

I need your views on whats my chances of getting insured..

Plan A:
Im 22 years old got 5 years NCB and will have another car on fully comp insurance.. It will be in a safe garage at night and only do around 1000 miles a year..

Or my other idea is to do the following.

Plan B:
Get it under my dads name.... Age: 44 NCB: 6 kept in garage aswell.. An then be a named driver under it...


I would rather get it under my name but if i dont stand a chance in getting one then i would rather get in his name than not have one at all.....

I did get 1 price for myself from Elephant and that was £2800... Should i just give up and keep dreaming of my skyline or is there a chance i can get a decent price under £1500

Well, £2,800 isn't a bad place to start. That's a better price than I was quoted (when I could get a quote at all) on a 1994 GTS25t. If you go for a GTR V-Spec, because it's not an import, many more insurance compaines will quote you a price. Then you can play them off against each other. Have you seen the discount deal we have with A-plan?

Obviously your age will play against you, but having 5 years NCB should certainly help. I looked at having the car in my Dad's name to keep insurance costs down but for the extra money I paid for the first year to have it solely in my name it was well worth it because when I came to renew, most insurers accepted the fact that I now had experience of driving the car without incident.

I did see that discount for A-Plan.. I think ill give them a bell tomorrow and see what they can come up with.

I all so see your point about getting it in your own name, But at the end of the day if i was to get fully comp on my Dads' Ford KA it would cost me £1500 believe it or not... Even thou i am fully comp on a Custom built Ford Escort Gti for £500... Dont like insurance it dont make sence,

But aslong as i can get something ill be happy and wont mind paying for it, I just want one!!! pmsl

Just to add some more this message... I just got 2 prices under my dads name with me as a Driver and for a GTR V-Spec...

Try insuring the car in your name but add your dad on as a named driver, this reduced the cost on my insurance and worked wonders with my brother in law when he put my wife on his insurance. :bigthumb:

aplan done mine for a grand tpft 3k limited mileage which i wont use over anyway..

im 22, 3 years ncb, car will be garaged and have cat1 fitted.

mines a r33 gtst.

This is (IMHO) not true (only the few UK cars are not imports, not all V-Specs).

Anyway, if you contact A Plan etc. they will want to know what experience you have driving 'powerful' cars, so if you've had/driven decent motors in the past it will help you.

I have owned a Ford Ka and Ford Escort GTi.. which is registered at 160BHP Custom Built car...

But when it comes to experience in driving. I prob have alot more than normal people, As i drive around 1k - 2k a week...

Yep you guessed it... Im a bus driver... Now they have really big engines pmsl...

You don't build up NCB with TPF&T insurance though, do you?

I got my 1yrs no claim for being third party only. The other year of driving one as a named driver so didnt get any for that.

I am 20 having been driving 2 1/2 years and 1 years no claims and i am insured for £1850 with Adrian Flux on a R33 GTST.

Try A-Plan or Adrian Flux i think A-Plan will be cheaper for you though as they insure drivers 22+ from what they told me.

my quote was 719 FC with any mod garaged and cat 1 alarm for a m24 postcode 8 years ncb protected and im 26, adrian flux and keith micahels gave me the same price

got my quote through a plan have 1 claim and 3 points(whoops!) they quoted me 465 fully comp protected no claims. i am 44 and female tho.still trying to get the car sorted.seen a couple more but don't want to part x.know anyone who wants a mg zs+ 04 plate?????

im 21 did have 3 yrs NCB and i was paying 1600 with all mods declared on a R33 GTS T. i had an accident and lost all bar 1 yr NCB and i'm possibly looking at a GTR and mine will go u 170 quid more and this because the GTR is more expensive not a higher insurance group!!!
