Actual top speed for an R32 GTR?

I was chatting last night with Glynn M. (Bayside blue R32) and a recent anecdote prompted a brief discussion on top speeds.

Personally, the fastest I've been is an _indicated_ 150mph, which was trying hard on a GSX-R 750N a few years back.
Might've been a bit faster on my Thunderace at Snetterton, but the speedo was taped up, so I'll never know.

I have to admit I'd not given the car much thought until Glynn mentioned that both our R32's should be theoretically capable of reaching an _indicated_ 180mph; should it be possible to reach 8Krpm in top.

Obviously it'd be deeply irresponsible to try this on any public road :) but I wondered if anyone had actually managed a _measured_ top speed run (on private land, of course), with a standard R32 GTR and if so, what was the genuine top end?

I think you will find that 180 is VERY easy in a GTR.

In the GTS-GTT they max out at about 180 @ 7k ( rev limit ) so if you have enough power to get your car to pull 8k in top you should just about be on the wrong side of 200.

I think you will find there are quite a few people on here who, on private roads, have seen these sort of figures ( myself included ).

Hope that helps.

Its about power, a std GTR should do about 155-160 id say, but itd not get there that fast- ie on the M5 rather than brunters.

8k in top is a genuine 200mph+ if i remember right, i think 7500 is a tiny bit under 200.

Youl need a fair wack of power to do it, but not THAT much- but Rocket Ronnie managed 200+ a few times in the confines of Brunters with about 650bhp, and even just under that from 1.2 mile standing start at TOTB!
Youd do it with a lil less power, given the room (ie a clear motorway!).

How quick u get there is most relevant tho- Many supercars can top 180/190/200, but most take a long time to get there- I know from past races that even when u race somthing with a far higher top speed (ie 200odd) but you got better power to weight, you get such a lead to say 160/170 that by time they get to a higher speed than you can go, youve accelerated over the horizon and out of view and won the race anyhow!

I was looking on the web not that far back, most places I looked said 165 mph top speed as standard.

But then again is that like the GTR only having 280 bhp as standard !!

Not only do you need to sign away all your money to own a skyline, you need to be a professional researcher !!

Still I ain't complaining !!

Dont forget clock speeds are a million miles away from real speed, so jus cause your clock says 170 that dont mean owt, calculate it from revs in 5th, or somthing like a GPS.

My estimates from thinking about reality is a standard (ok, maybe an exhaust) GTST would do around 150, and a GTR a little higher, 160, but thatd take a LONG time (ie neither would get that in brunters say), as neither has much power really.

Top speed is irrelavant unless you get there a lot faster than the other car your comparing it to...

Slightly off subject, GTSM, says you drive a "Track Weapon" jus wondered what the spec is?

yup, I remember biking friends coming back from France with stories of an indicated 190mph (new ish R1's etc)... I doubt if that's even close, more likely 170. Makes you think though, at that speed you can sneeze and have missed an entire village (apparently)... Scary thought.

yes that'd be me... are you the white r33 gtr (doh as your avatar would suggest)... on the road between chi centre and the new Homebase?
Apologies for the cheesy grin & manic stare; although there must be a few skylines around, I never seem to see them driving!

yup, even my car hating girlfriend - who hopes to sell my car and go shopping with the proceeds :) - was impressed at seeing another skyline locally.
As I live near Chi I may see you around again... Next time I'll remember to wave! :) :)

(apologies for staying off thread)

Re The girl friend, I know the feeling...Paul
My girlfirend is covered (3rd party) on my car, but she won't drive it, reckons it's scary. She's not the most confident driver though!

When I told her that my car was going to 'risingsun' for a new cambelt she said:

"...if you buy any more for that car before we go on holiday, then I'll search the car and remove it, even the cambelt thingy; if I can find it..." LOL
