Ho hum.... Here we go.

I'm seriously considering selling my R32 GTST and getting something less expensive and more reliable, and with that in mind I'm looking for a bit of sensible advice (ok that rules half of you lot out straight away!).

Perhaps I'm after someone talking me into keeping it, or perhaps talking me into selling it, I really don't know.

Having recently moved back to Scotland (I commute to London to work) there's been a lot going on, and in the past year or so I've really not been spending the time on the car I should (she is after all 14 years old and gets used hard (hmm that sounds dodgy)).
Since I bought it (rushed into buying, bought a bit of a munter really) I've rebuilt most of it since every few months something else blows up or breaks, and nowadays I'm kinda tired of the constant expense or worry over what can go wrong next, altho I dont think there's much original left other than the engine iself and half the bodywork, and its hard finding the time to do the work on it myself, which was always something I loved doing but now I can't be arsed. Jet lag sucks lol o_O

My sensible head wants to buy a house soon, and financially saving for a deposit and running the liner dont mix too well right now for various reasons, its feasible but a pain in the arse.

I love driving it, everytime I get in there's still the same thrill I had almost 3 years ago when I bought it, and I've chucked a lot of money at it over that time either adding things or fixing things. I know I'm not going to get the same grin in almost anything else cos there's not much out there I haven't driven at some point. Also, I have to admit the vain Showoff in me loves the attention the car gets in town :)

Right now its needing a full brake change all round, the front bumper cutting and refitting to fit, some paintwork and the decals stripping off, the rims repolished and a coupla other things like guage fitting.... and thats just to make her presentable before I even think about selling, so there is some thinking time.

Bah its driving me mental, I hate trying to be mature about things!

Anyways, there you have it. It'll break my heart to let it go I think, I still regret parting with my '79 Trans Am, and that coupled with the grin factor are about all that's making me keep it I think....

[still waiting]

Mate you have done the financially sensible thing have you not, getting rid of the Trans Am (always wanted one of those since I saw Smokey and the Bandit) and getting the liner. Look at it this way, you've done nearly everything to the 32 so you may aswell hang on to it a bit longer.

To be truthful though I find myself in the same boat, the Skyline used to be my daily driver but since I changed job I've taken a huge drop in pay and got a company car now aswell the skyline has become a very expensive (over ÂŁ100 a month by the time you add together the tax and insurance not to mention fuel and oil etc) weekend toy.

So I have the same dilema, do I do the sensible thing and sell her after spending most of my redundancy last year on a bodykit and full respray and alloys or do I stay skint every month and grin like a cheshire cat every time I drive her or grow up and do what I know I should do?

Hang on to yours a bit longer and see if you feel the same in a couple of months.

Isn't it a pisser how work aways seems to get in the way of you doing the things that you really enjoy.

Anyway off topic, how are you enjoying being back in Glesga, are you revisiting the old haunts of your youth? :funny:

See how you feel after you fixed her up a bit which as you say you are gonna need to do anyway. Whatever you do it doesnt have to be permanent...there are always gonna be other skylines (and other cars) out there. So if you priorities need sorting elsewhere then sort them...get another car the time is right for you.

Turbob12... aye caught up with the old crowd of mates which is great, having a blast :D

I reckon I'm gonna have to face a serious thinking session about it over the next month... Not going to get the work done til July anyways since I've got sod all time off this month so we shall see... Bah I hate indecision lol!

Whatever you decide, you will always be a petrol head, once you'v been there you WILL be back one day and after another 'car' :smoker:
I tried to do all that responsible stuff 18 months ago after selling my Type R scooby, hell i spent 3 k on it before i picked it up
I then thought :wtf: , cant stick all these out-goings every month and sold it 6 months later to pay off all the shite, don my carpet slippers and put my feet up. Think i had more horlicks in me at the time than in the vains of cliff richard -for a while
Then my mate got a GTS.t, i went to a rolling road day in plymouth a couple of weeks ago, then said mate gave me his Skyline DVD to watch and suddenly all that pottering about in my 1000 quid audi80 seems like a distant memory. Im converted, gota get a GTR.
The mrs is doing her nut, she thought i was all over it but how wrong could she be.
Now im taking out a bloody big loan and im going to be 320 quid a month lighter and it feels like im the only one nuts enough to do it and im still trying to convince myself that its sound financial sense

So, from my experiance, whatever you decide its not all over and you will be back m8
