Hi im new here btw :)
I just bougt a Skyline R32 GTS that has a RB25DET engine fitted, the only problem is that the engine loom isnt connected to the "car" loom i got wiring diagram of the engine loom tho..
anyone done this here and got some tip? what im stuck with atm is figuring out how to connect the engine loom to the loom inside of the car where the old ECU were fitted

ive done plenty of these conversions,,, if your going to do it yourself, DONT CUT ANY OF THE HARNESSES in the middle of any wire,,,,, everything can be done at the plugs....... what you do is remove the 32 engine harness, split the 32 harness, keep the wiring you will need ( abs, wipers, heater tap ) ...

then patch in the 33 harness to the original plugs on the 32 harness,,,, remembering everything can be done at the plugs,,,, using a multimeter to beep out every wire so you can be 1000% sure when you plug it in it will run....

What exactly do you have there?

Have you got the complete engine loom only for the GTS, with the ECU plug etc, or a complete GTS loom including all ancilleries wiring etc?

I think its pretty straightforward to do, just need better info on what you have there.:)

the parts i got, got complete loom from the donor car, along with the RB25DET Ecu, the old loom is taken out, also looks like someones cut it, dont really know why, maybe one that had the car before me sold the GTS Ecu cause i dont find the GTS ECU connector, so whats missing is, inside the car, where the old ECU was mounted, there are like 4 connectors going up and away into the dashboard. and those connectors are nothing like the one from the RB25DET loom, so what i need to find out is what cables needs to put together, like ignition for the ECU and such for the instrument panel, also using the RB25DET Ecu so thats is direct fit, not sure if it works without the rest of the cables connected tho

Ok Cepe, if you have the dash part of the R33 loom AND the Engine/ECU harness, then its gonna be easier I think to remove the dash, and install the complete loom, running in parralel with the old loom, to run the ECU and engine.

If the wiring that would have gone to the Ignition Barrel is there, then it makes this bit quite easy.

If you do have this, then you only need to run the new loom for the engine and ECU.
The rest of the power feeds for the ABS, Instruments, basically the R32 stuff will still run off the old loom.

Im hoping that you have something similar to this, as its much easier than you might think to do this.:)

yeah gonna try hook up the ecu today and see if it starts, i may have to search for some cables to connect to the ECU, not sure if the ignition and power and such is coming threw the harness that comes from the engine bay.
also the engine and gearbox is from a R34, so maybe thats why its a bit more complicated

okey manage to work out ignition and power suply and such, only thing i cant really make out of the diagrams is how the fuel pump relay is wired, anyone know?
The ECU's switching signal to the fuel pump relay is from Pin 18 on the ECU.

You will need to take the pin 18 wire from the old ecu plug and run it to the new plugs pin 18 tho, or I dont think it would fire up.

Was the cars original engine the RB20DET? or a non turbo lump RB20/25DE?

AFAIK the fuel pump should work as normal then, as long as the original wiring is still being used as well as the RB25's loom.

The +ve 12v supply to the fuel pump is from the (EGGS relay on 200sx) fuel pump relay.:)

I know the RB20DET's wiring includes a fuel pump power modulating thing, which I think is in the boot.

I dont have one in the S13, so the pumps at full speed/load all the time.
Possibly as your fitting an RB25DET now, it could be a worthwhile modification to bypass this too, especially when using an uprated pump, and running higher fuel pressures when under boost.
You may find you get a sharper fuel pickup.

I think it would be a good mod for any of the RB's that use it.
Only there to take a bit of strain off the pump, when ur not caning it about.:)

Here it is:

If you cut the fuel pumps earth wire at the pump.
Then tape the cut end which 'was' running to the pump, and run a good ground from the pump to the best earthing point you can, then it should be bypassed!
You might well find some benefits to this, but I dont really know if its something that many/any skyline owners have done.

yeah problem there was that i dont got the old ECU harness, but i found the control unit and fuel relay and followed those cables to get hold of the control feed cable and also 2 wires for the drop resistor and also for the control box so got this sorted yesterday, the control unit and the relays is in the trunk, car wouldnt start at first, c :p problem was that the old owner hadnt connected the fuel lines to the engine, they were just plugged, so did that and wroom wrooom, wasnt the easiest since i didnt got the old ECU, i didnt get a RPM signal to the dash tho, but i think ill just run a new wire from the new ECU up to the pin where it gets the tacho signal on the instrument panel

Ahh, I had my date set to 2002 for running a program...
So ive just seen the posts from the last few days today!?

So, well done mate!:)
Bet your chuffed to bits too.

Not an easy job if you (like I had too) have a loom which has had the ECU harness cut off!
But still, its going and again, well done.:boogy:

okaj, another problem maybe, hehe since i didnt to the "hardware part" in this conversion, i got the car with engine and gearbox fitted and ready, now i was thinking, since the gearbox is from a R34GTT -98, and the original car probably used elektronic controlled speedometer, now the speedo in my R32 GTS, seems to be mechanical, the wire goes somewhere i cant see were, anyone know if the GTT R34 gearbox got a mechanical speed sensor or has the possibility to mount one on it? i will probably know when i get the car going, missing some parts tho and nissan taking sweet time to get em delivered :( but if i the gearbox just has a Electronic speed sensor i got som wiring left to do i guess :( then i have to put in the R34 dash i guess :( and i dont have the connectors for that one, just the dash

AFAIK your mechanical speedo sender, 'should' fit in the R34 'box.
Not 100% sure, but all the 'boxes seem to have the same type of fitting.

Had the same problem with the 200SX with the RB20DET.
Works fine with the 200's sender in the R32 'box, but they are the same casing.:)

Havent seen an R34 box tho, but im sure if the sender fits ok ands bolts up, then it will probably work as normal.

You'll need to count the number of teeth on the gear of the sender unit tho, and compare that with the R34's sender.

AFAIK it should be fine, but more or less teeth will affect the reading of the speedo, as in less teeth on the R32 than R34, will see the speedo reading high.
But you may be able to swap the gear/cog if your careful, if you need to.

hmmm my speedo didnt work, seems like the gearbox probably just got a electronic sensor then :( how easy is the connectors for the R34 dash to get hold of? or do i need to get a wire harness for that part from nissan?
I couldnt quite work out how you have set the speedo up from your post Cepe... sorry.:)

If you have the R32 mechanical sender, and the R32 clocks etc to use, then it should work ok.
If youve tried it already this way, and it didnt work, my guess is that its needing wired properly at the dash end.

If you have acess to an S14a 200sx electronic sender unit... if you fit this and run the wiring into the R32 dash wiring, it should work, but will be slightly off as far as the accuracy is concerned.
But once its working, you might be able to 'tune' the speedo to read closer to being right.

Is the wiring exposed?
Any way you can put up some pics of what you have to work with?
It would make this a lot easier, saves guessing.:)

the car is fitted with a R34GTT gearbox, wich seems to only have a electronic speed sensor, and from my R32 Dash there is a mechanical wire connected, wich i atm dont know where its going, so my guess is that the one that mounted the gearbox noticed tha it couldnt be attached to the gearbox since it doesnt got a mechanical output as it seems, im gonna try crawl under the car and look for something

I have an R32 mechanical sender im not using, if your not too far away I could send it to you.:)

If you are near any breaker's yards, im sure you could find one for next to nothing.
Easy to install, and will save you all the hassle of trying to fit an electrical unit and clock.
