R34 GTT starting and rev issues

Hi All,

Couple of issues I'm having at the moment hoping you can advise on how to solve.

First one is small, I'm having intermittent starting issues, sometimes it starts up first time with no issues but sometimes it will turn over for a while before starting up then when it does start will stutter a while before idling at correct revs. The only recurring issue I've noticed with this is, when it starts first time I hear a whirring noise which I'm assuming is the fuel pump arming, when it doesn't start straight away I don't hear that noise and there is also a smell of fuel when it eventually does start up. Any ideas?

The second problem is something that has only just happened on the way home from work this morning, the car was running fine, boosting and accelerating fine then in 3rd gear i hit about 3500RPM and heard a big hiss that sounded like a lorry letting off it's air brakes. After that the car was stuttering in 3rd,4th and 5th gear at 3500RPM and I had no power, at low speeds and low revs it runs fine and is idling normal. I checked the hoses and everything is still attached. Clues?

Current mods:
Conceptua Stage 4 turbo
Superforma coil packs
Bosch 550cc Injectors
Z32 AFM

All other usual stuff like FMIC, Blitz air filter, boost controller

alright mate have you checked all your intercooler pipework sounds like you have popped one of them off
i havent had it on my skyline but happened all the time on my evos

also with the starting iisue have you checked the battery state my skyline was the same turns out the battery was on its way out changed battery all is fine now
the fuel smell will just be your in jectors are trying to put fuel in before the engines started creating an excess of fuel

i could be wrong as pritty new to the skylines

I'm pretty sure the gauge only indictaors what voltage the alternator is supplying the battery with. Best way to check is to test the voltage on the terminals as your starting the engine. If it drops below 12 at any point then the battery may be giving up the goose soon.

As above the loss of power would point me in the direction of the intercooler pipework as Ive had it happen to me before cos i didn't tighten the jubilee clips up enough after fiddling about with the turbo. Just double check all the pipework but as a guide the one that popped off on mine was after the intercooler as it came back through the engine bay.

Could be a split hose, during non boost.high vacuum it could be sucking in unmeatered air and scewing with the mixture and cause misfire etc, and if on boost it could also loose pressure also scewing with the mixture and curbing performance.

Up on further investigation I discovered my air filter had fallen apart, the silver bullet shaped thing on the end has gone and my filter is now in 3 parts so I'm wondering if that could be it, I've tightened up every jubilee clip on every hose so this I think is my cheapest next option.

So now I need to find an air filter to go over fit in this space:

You can see the silver bullet bit on the end of the filter which has now gone missing.

I guess you could of had a bit of the filter caught on the AFM causing problems, but worse still you could have a piece of the filter stuck in the turbo turbine, might be a good idea to check before running the engine again mate.

If it turns out its the iacv gone **** dude i have 1 that has just been removed from my gtt. U will have to chop the plug off yours and join it on this 1 though as ive used the plug to retro fit a r33 iacv to my car (long story) lol. Pm me for details if u need it.
